Dior and I: Review

I have always been a lover of Raf Simons, from his own collection, to his collaborations with adidas, to the way he changed the "face" of Dior. When I heard that a documentary was coming to our screens highlighting Rafs journey at Dior and showing behind the scenes footage of his first collection, I knew I had to see it right away.

The film in itself was brilliant. I feel that the foreshadowing of Raf Simons and Christian Dior throughout, particularly gave a sense of reality and relation when watching Raf recreate an old fashioned collection. I think people see fashion and the industry as a luxury, they don’t think about the amount of hard work, long hours and talented people it takes to gather one collection. This is what I found most fascinating about this, was the sheer determination and effort shown by Raf and the employees of the Dior house, to upkeep such a professional and famous reputation.

Rafs first collection for Dior is one that will never be forgotten, “I’ve never done couture before, only ever ready-to-wear” he explains at the beginning of the film. I believe that inspiration is everything, I feel that you should never close your eyes because inspiration is everywhere, this is why I loved the way you could almost accompany raf on the journey, being able to pick out his thought process and the way he was thinking. Dior lived in a house with his parents, his mum had such a strong passion for gardening. When Raf went to visit Diors childhood home, he was overwhelmed by the enormous amounts of beautiful flowers - it was truly stunning. Therefore, he took this inspiration back to the house and decided that he wanted his runway venue to be covered in different flowers for each room, so everyone who experienced his collection, could also experience the childhood home of Christian Dior himself. This, to me, is what fashion is all about, bringing people of different times, ethnicity, backgrounds, to share a love of something we can all create and communicate with.

There are so many different shows, styles, outfits, collections all over the world each year, being created by thousands of talented designers, but only occasionally do you get to discover their true inspiration and thought process behind each piece, their intentions and their aspirations. This is what I find most interesting, giving the collection a voice and a purpose. And this is why I loved Dior and I, being able to follow Raf on his journey, relating to his emotions and sharing his thoughts. It just shows how incredible the industry of fashion can be, and the things that people can create.

May Best Dressed 2014

What can I say, I have no excuse for not posting in a while, other than the fact I have been drowning in college work. I will try my best to keep up a weekly post, but as its now June, I thought we could begin a fresh start (as I have finally finished all of my exams!). So I thought I would start with May's best dressed! There were many events in May such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Met Ball and also Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, hosting a dinner in honour of the work of The Royal Marsden (A cancer charity) all of which had some amazing outfits and some not-so-amazing outfits!

Emma Watson
The Royal Marsden Dinner
May 15th 2014
As always, the sweet Emma Watson looked stunning in a white shirt and full length grey skirt both from the Ralph Lauren collection (who also attended the dinner!) which were paired with Monica Vinader rings and a Roger Vivier clutch. The contrast in colour worked well with the bright red lip and smokey eyes. Perfect for a dinner with the royals, Emma looked sophisticated but fun with her open collar and V neck line, with the thin leather belt tying the outfit all together. Bravo!

Cate Blanchett
The Royal Marsden Dinner
May 15th 2014
Another stunning gown from The Royal Marsden dinner, worn by Cate Blanchett. Here she wears a pure white, one shoulder gown by the Ralph Lauren Collection which were accessorised with heels and jewels also by the Ralph Lauren Collection. Again perfect for a dinner date with the royals, the sleek shape of the gown outlining her perfect figure, matching the sophistication with a perfect up-do! Wouldn't want to take the attention away from the gorgeous drop earrings and the sheer simplicity of the gown. Stunning!

Blake Lively
Cannes Film Festival 2014
14-25th May 2014
Well lets all talk about Blake Lively. Gorgeous! I don't know about you guys but recently I feel like she's been everywhere, and so she should be!! 4 beautiful dresses were worn by her at the famous film festival this month, all very unique but equally amazing. My favourites would have to be the Gucci Premiere black and white silk crepe strapless gown and the Giambattista Valli Couture Dress (third image) worn with Stuart Wietzman heels. From red carpet to street fashion, Blake looked stunning in all 4 of her outfits, and her hair! to die for! Why can't we all have tanned skin, healthy blind locks and a perfect smile like Blake!

Lily Aldridge
Met Ball 2014
May 4th 2014
Wow! Lily Aldridge looked stunning in this metallic Michael Kors gown! The colour and shape of the dress suit her so well and paired with simple makeup, beautiful! She carried a clutch Salvator Ferragamo which looked lovely alongside the dress. The shape compliments her figure and her ever so amazing bone structure (jealous!) The wrap around design compliments the simplicity of her hair and makeup. With this dress, smokey eye NO. You did well Lily!

Well I hope you guys have enjoyed my opinions on who I thought was best dressed this month! Im sorry again for being lazy with posting! A-levels are slowly becoming the death of me! Goodbye!
